A club namely National Sports Club of Assam was established on 11th March, 1954 under the Registration of Societies Act, XXI of 1860 at Shillong, which was then the capital of the State of Assam.
When Meghalaya was carved out of Assam in 1972, the management and control of the National Sports Club were temporarily transferred under the provisions of the National Sports Club (Taking Over of Management and Control) Act, 1972. Consequently, on 2nd May, 1977, a Board known as the Board of Sports of Assam was constituted.
The Board shall consist of not more than nine (9) members and not less than five (5) members. The State Government shall nominate one member of the Board to serve as the Chairman. The Chairman shall, with the approval of the State Government, appoint a person to serve as the Secretary of the Board.
The Board shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal, and shall sue and be sued in the name of the “Board of Sports of Assam.”
